Why People Search For Arrest Records
On July 4th, 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson enacted the Freedom of Information Act for the United States. This act allows Americans to be free to gather information about people, such as their arrest records. There are several reasons that someone might want to look up someone else’s, or even their own arrest records. If you want to search for someone’s arrest records, your reasons are your own and they are probably very good ones.
Many people search for the arrest records of people who will be around their children, such as child care providers and nannies, new neighbors, the friends and romantic interests of older children and young adults. It should be noted that juvenile arrest records are not public information, but often young adults will have older friends and their parents are typically concerned about this and will want to take a look at their arrest records to feel more confident that their children are safe.
Some people will want to see the arrest records of someone who will be working in their homes. If they are interviewing housekeepers, handymen, or even dog sitters, it is important that they know that these people do not have arrest records for theft. This is a perfectly valid reason to look for someone’s arrest records, but be aware that to search arrest records for someone you need to do it within the counties that they might have been arrested. This is often impossible to know in these types of situations.
There are people who just want to know about the people they are hanging out with. This might include people they are dating, friends, neighbors, and even coworkers. Once again, the counties that these people might have arrest records in come into play in this type of search, but it might be easier to find this information out from these people than from someone that you are interviewing.
There are situations where somebody might want to search for their own arrest records. They might want to know what a potential employer might find. They may want to see if their arrests have dropped off of their record. They might just be curious to know if there are others with the same name as theirs with arrest records, as this could cause problems for someone in various situations.
Searching for arrest records is free but it is not easy. In order to get an accurate report of somebody’s past arrests you would have to search every county in the country, which would be impossible to do individually. There are companies that will do this work for you. They aren’t free but they will give you an accurate report of arrest records from any area that they might be found.
