Running My Own Arrest Records Check In Dutchess County, NY Produced Some Surprising Results

I want to start a child care business in my home in Dutchess County, New York.  I want to give my potential clients the peace of mind that I have a clean arrest history, but when I went online to pull up my arrest records I couldn’t find them.  I don’t want to give them a complete background history on me, that kind of stuff is none of their business.  Actually it is public information, but they will have to pay for background checks on their own.  I just want to provide them with a copy of my arrest records to show that I have never been arrested.

In Dutchess County, NY I can go to the court records archives and search the arrest records for myself there for free, but this poses the problem that the only thing I would be able to offer my clients is my word that I did so.  I won’t be able to hand them a hard copy of something that is non-existent.  If I could get something online that says no arrest records were found, I could simply print that page and make copies of it.  It’s kind of a dilemma because I really want to be able to do this for my clients.  People around these parts tend to not trust others with their children without a good reason to do so, and who could blame them?

So this is what I ended up doing.  I found this website online that would search my arrest records, not just in Dutchess County, NY, but everywhere for a small fee.  I paid the fee and almost instantly they returned to me that there were no arrest records found on me.  But you’re not going to believe what they did find.

There is another person with the same name as mine who has quite a few arrest records.  The middle initial and birth date are different, but how will my clients know these things about me if they do this kind of search on their own?  How will anybody know if they search my name that this other person out there with arrest records is not me?  This concerned me greatly.

There really is nothing I can do beyond changing my name, and I’m not willing to do that.  What I can do, however, is check my credit reports and make sure that this person hasn’t ended up on there somehow.  I am glad I found out about this other person’s arrest records because now I can be proactive in protecting my own credit.
